The landing gear forms part of a space vehicle designed for a lunar landing. The landing pad itself is in the form of a hollow spherical curved pad having radially collapsible ribs or spokes formed in it. The ribs absorb the shock of landing by collapsing or crumpling. A ball joint is used to secure the pad to the landing gear system.
