This publication provides an annual summary of that proportion of freight transport within the UK which is conducted by water. This includes coastwise shipping between two UK ports, traffic moved between the seaboard and the sea bed: sea-dredged aggregates, effluent for dumping, crude oil and oil rig supplies etc., and inland waterway traffics. The tables presented are based on surveys of inland waterway traffics and coastwise traffics conducted in 1980. The tables relate to waterborne freight activities within the United Kingdom, Isle of Man and the Channel Islands.
