Analysis of several HU-1 helicopter accidents disclosed a definite weakness in the occupant tiedown system. This deficiency has contributed, either directly or indirectly, to the injury of personnel involved in these accidents. This report proposes both an interim fix and a permanent solution to the problem of troop seat safety belt anchorage failures in the HU-1 series aircraft. A complete list of equipment required, cost of retrofit, manhours required for installation, and detailed installation drawings are included. Step by step retrofit instructions are presented for use of maintenance personnel. (Author)
