This memorandum is organized as follows: Section 2 goes into the aerothermodynamic design philosophy seen against the background of the fore mentioned fundamental design problems. Section 3 mentioned the requirements put to hypersonic facilities for the simulation of specific flow conditions. In section 4 is pointed out how the Faculty of Aerospace Engineering of the University of Technology Delft will contribute to hypersonic testing. For this purpose a Ludwieg tube type of facility was selected that has recently been designed and built in Germany.
