Fire tests in closed aluminum containers onboard cargo ships are described. Results indicate theat the risk for ship and remaining cargo, when the cargo of one container catches fire, is rather limited, even when the cargo consists of bottled liquids with a flashpoint sufficiently higher than the ambient temperature. In the latter case, the container should have a special floor construction. The risks are even considerably lower than onboard conventional dry cargo ships.
