The EUROCONTROL Agency, together with the Federal Aviation Administration of the United States, has developed and implemented a device for measuring the performance of transponders fitted in aircraft. The device is called MTPA - Mobile Transponder Performance Analyser. It gives the possibility of measuring different characteristics of transponders in normal operating conditions. It is installed in a van which is set up near the runway at the airport where measurements are requested. Measurements are done on all aircraft which cross the beam of the antenna of the measurement device, and which have their transponder on. The present report describes a set of measurements made in cooperation with the Spanish Civil Aviation Authorities - The DIRECCION GENERAL DE AVIACION CIVIL - on the airport of MADRID-BARAJAS, in November 1986, and gives the corresponding results.
