The report is the result of a feasibility study conducted for the Polish State Railways (PKP). There were four main objectives of the study: (1) jointly establish a direction for the restructuring of PKP, (2) Provide a powerful, flexible analytical tool that permits PKP to evaluate a wide range of strategic options, (3) suggest a preliminary set of organizational structures and relationships that would support PKP's efforts to become a market-driven, commercial organization, and (4) suggest management, information, and control structures that would foster improved productivity and market penetration for each of PKP's primary lines of business. Volume One of the report contains: an Executive Summary, Project Requirements and Terms of Reference, Overview of PKP, Economic Change and the Effect on PKP's Markets, PKP Freight and Passenger Forecast, and Overview of the Models.
