The main activities carried out by Alenia (Aeritalia and Selenia) GAT (Italian acronym for Air Transport Group) in the field of aeronautical fatigue are summarized. The ATR 42 and 72 full scale fatigue tests are described. These included: aircraft fatigue tests, horizontal tail fatigue tests, main landing gear fatigue tests and main landing gear support structure fatigue tests. The ATR 72 test also investigated rear entry door plug, carbon epoxy vertical tail and skin panels with bonded stringers. The MO 11 full scale a winglet assembly fatigue tests and the specimen fatigue tests are also described. The latter included crack propagation tests and analytical models comparison, fatigue characterization of carbon/epoxy solid laminates, fatigue characterization of aluminun alloys, and damage tolerance charaterization of aluminum lithium alloys. The test setups are illustrated.
