A measuring system for the calibration of length scales has been developed. The system includes a laser-based edge detector, a laser interferometer measurement system, a coordinate measuring machine, and a computer system. The measuring system allows length scales to be calibrated approximately three times faster than was previously possible and with an accuracy of (plus minus)20 microinches.
