The project is located in Door County, Wisconsin, in and near the city of Sturgeon Bay. It begins at the junction of CTH 'S' and present Highway 42-57, then easterly adjacent to Walnut Street crossing Sturgeon Bay 1.6 miles southeast of the present highway bridge. It extends north to present Highway 42-57, approximately one quarter mile east of Eighteenth Avenue. Total project length is 4.8 miles. The most significant impact will be the removal of through traffic and the attendant congestion and pollution from the downtown area. Some land use changes will occur. Other environmental effects include the acquisition of lands for highway right of way and the relocation of families or businesses will adversely affect the human environment. Some minor disturbance of the Bay bottom will occur during construction of the bridge piers but no fill will be placed in the channel. No 4(f) lands or significant historical sites are involved in this project.
