The requirements are for a surveillance drone system capable of carrying a 150-pound sensor payload at speeds up to 300 knots (at sea level), altitudes up to 20,000 feet (MSL), and endurance of 45 minutes (including 10 minutes at maximum speed at sea level and 35 minutes at cruise speed at 500 to 1,000 feet altitude). It should be designed to carry photographic, infrared, and radar sensors, either singly or in combination. The low endurance surveillance drone system will be utilized in performing combat surveillance and target location missions for the division and its subordinate elements within line-of-sight of the ground control station. The drone will carry various sensory devices over the enemy, and enemy held terrain, providing electronic and photographic surveillance for the obtaining and storage of sensor data. The resulting information will be provided by other communications means immediately to the requestor and concurrently to other interested agencies. Employment procedures will generally parallel conventional aerial reconnaissance techniques.
