At 0940 Greenwich mean time, September 8, 1974, Trans World Airlines, Inc., Flight 841, crashed into the Ionian Sea about 50 nmi west of Cephalonia, Greece. There were 79 passengers and 9 crewmembers on board; no one survived. The aircraft was destoyed. The National Transportation Safety Board determines that the probable cause of this accident was the detonation of an explosive device within the aft cargo compartment of the aircraft which rendered the aircraft uncontrollable.
