The prime purpose of the project is to eliminate two hazardous curves. At the same time, it is proposed to improve the vertical alinement, widen the traveled way, and to provide safer roadway shoulders. The ambient noise level and air contamination from vehicular exhausts should decrease because the two sharp curves causing alternating speed reduction and acceleration will be eliminated from the main route of travel. The adverse environmental effect which cannot be avoided is the need for acquiring an additional 30 acres for highway right-of-way.
