The history of the international Space Station negotiations is summarized. The overall setup of the Space Station agreements is presented. The hierarchy among them and in relation to other international instruments is outlined. Key features in the agreements are given special attention. The issue of peaceful purposes versus national security is given particular attention. The European position in the framework of the agreements is discussed. Letters between the German Ministry for Research and Technology and the U.S. Department of State regarding signing of the final agreements are presented.
