TRBs Transportation Research Record: Journal of the Transportation Research Board, No. 2063 includes 21 papers that explore the use of smart card data to define public transit use, innovative public/private cooperation for urban transport, modeling the impact of transit operator fleet size, bus deployment strategies and automatic vehicle location to improve bus service reliability, and a fleet-size model for light rail and bus rapid transit systems. This issue of the TRR also examines a data archiving and mining system for transit service improvements, a public transit simulation model for optimal synchronized transfers, smart card transaction data for transit demand modeling, smart parking linked to transit, identifying feasible locations for rail transit stations, a public transit system based on flexible routes, carsharing, and a model for evaluating community suitability for transit investments. In addition, this TRR highlights innovative planning and financing strategies for a downtown circulator bus route, links between transit ridership and gasoline prices, land use-based transit planning, transit-oriented development's effect on transit ridership, safety analysis of road surface transit, and transportation policy effect on public transit.
