The report deals with five topics: The ship and ship wake imaging capability of the radar satellite ERS-1 is evaluated; Different ship wake simulation models are reviewed with respect to SAR imaging of ship wakes; Some typical naval operation scenarios are studied to obtain detection rates of various SAR modes; Ship and wake visibility at different incidence angles, resolutions and frequencies is estimated; and The usefulness of SAR for military oceanography is assessed.
