A small scale sea trial has been carried through in order to verify the possibility of using terrain navigation for determining the position of underwater vehicles. The method used has been developed at FOA. The sea trial confirms that the method has very good performance. The measurements in the sea trial were done by the ship Jacob Hagg owned by the Swedish Sjofartverket in an underwater terrain which is classified as interesting for terrain navigation/positioning. Correlation has been done against an existing underwater terrainmap of the area.
