Quantitative projections of changes that could occur in the levels of environmental pollutants and in the risks to human health as a result of light duty diesel vehicles are similar to risks for using gasoline engine vehicles. This assessment uses current scientific information to identify new directions for DOE research programs. It includes the manufacture and service of products and facilities that are necessary to support the use of light duty diesel vehicles in the US. Socio-economic factors are included.
