The US Army Aviation Test Board conducted a military potential test of the three-axis SAS/DCS to determine whether it had sufficient military potential to warrant further Army interest. The SAS/DCS was installed in an unarmed UH-1B Helicopter and tested during the conduct of missions requiring a utility helicopter.
