The airfoil DFVLR-W1 was investigated in a transonic wind tunnel at free transition in the Mach number range between 0.5 and 0.81, at a Reynolds number 6 million. The influence of different locations of transition fixing was investigated. Results are presented as aerodynamic coefficients, airfoil performance boundaries, and pressure distributions. It is shown that the design requirements are met by the airfoil. A comparison with theoretical results indicates the applicability of the computer codes used in the design process.
