Missile Nr 224 was flight tested in support of the evaluation of a W-7 (inert) nuclear warhead and warhead components, and of the Nike-Hercules System in the standard surface to air mode of operation. The missile carried PDM/FM telemetry for in-flight data. Warhead functions were mon itored by FM/FM telemetry. The target was a QB-17 drone flying a 200 knot, low medium alti tude, short range, incoming course. The missile did not achieve intercept. The flight was normal until 33.97 seconds at which time burst occurred. Analysis indicates that the malfuncesulting in missile burst could have been caused by some warhead component or its associated circuitry. (Author)
