It is shown that fairly accurate optimum thrusts can be calculated by including the effect of rocket-engine weight while neglecting aerodynamic drag. The results for vertical take-off with constant thrust in a constant gravity field are presented for optimization to obtain maximum burnout velocity or maximum burnout energy. (Author)
