The goal for the City of Rice Lake using the Department of Energy's Grand Award was to establish a methane fuel station and a ten-vehicle fleet as a demonstration project. The project would serve municipal and commercial vehicles to demonstrate an alternate utilization of our energy source (natural gas) and the benefits derived from it. Operational data was properly documented so commercial firms, institutions, and individuals can utilize the data for evaluating cost benefit ratio. Through the use of methane gas, the fuel cost to the City is projected to be reduced by 50% while utilizing a safer, cleaner, and nationally produced fuel. (ERA citation 08:021034)
