Four spectral bands for advanced infrared imaging systems are compared on the basis of calculations of atmospheric transmission, using the LOWTRAN 3B atmospheric transmission model. Slant paths, MTF effects, and Maritime and Rural aerosol models are included in the analysis. The relative advantage of the 3- to 5-micrometer band is shown to be strongly influenced by the choice of aerosol models. (AUthor)
