The use and development of airships in the U.S.S.R is discussed. The unique combination of features possessed by these machines (vertical takeoff and landing, large lift capacity, distance and duration of flight, and safety of operation) are noted. The development of a plan for a combined aerostatic airship of a semi-rigid type with a lift capacity of up to 30 tons is discussed.
