The virtual images generated for helmet mounted displays and head-up displays are reflected by beam splitters to the eyes of a user. The influence of the beam splitters, with and without images reflected, on the accommodation responses of observers was measured utilizing an eyetracker which continuosly monitored the accommodation response. The results indicate that the presence of the beam splitter aids in maintaining accommodation at or near infinity. (Author)
