The objective of this contract effort has been that of conducting a research and development study to significantly improve the state-of-the-art of traffic vehicle sensing. The approaches taken have been those of proper research, conception, and selection leading to the development of an engineering model of an advanced vehicle sensor. The analysis includes basic energy fields, vehicle properties, transducer mechanisms, signal conditioning, and localized data processing. (Author)
