In the quest for solving serious problems associated with fixing rails to S.A. pine glulam sleepers, a large number of separate and often uncoordinated investigations had been undertaken by various organizations. Only a few concepts have proved to warrant further consideration. It is concluded that of these, a suitably formulated epoxy resin in the coach screw holes or a specially designed spring clip to hold down the screws show the most promise and now require extensive field testing.
