The report presents the dynamic stability characteristics of the U.S. Army XV-5A lift fan research aircraft based on theoretical and empirical estimates of dynamic stability derivatives and static aerodynamic characteristics derived from scale model wind tunnel tests. Except for a presentation of the lift fan natural damping contributions to flight in the lift fan mode, the report is restricted to analysis of conventional flight characteristics. Investigation shows that the dynamic stability characteristics of the aircraft are satisfactory for the research objectives within the examined flight envelope. (Author)
