Physical changes have recently been made to the launch valve control systems of all shipbased C7 and C11-1 steam catapults except the C11-1 catapults on the USS Lexington (CVA 16) which is now used only as a training ship. The changes were made to improve the catapult efficiency and also to reduce the initial catapult loading rate at lower aircraft weights. Since such changes affect the loading characteristics of these catapults, it was necessary to analyze test data from the improved catapults in order to keep the report current. (Author)
