Truck transport across the border into Norway is increasing and the trend is expected to continue, especially in the import of goods. The reason is increasing trade with the European Union, and the new member states in particular, and that imports from these states, more so than from other countries, are transported by road. This increasing import of goods by truck from the new member states is challenging authorities faced with determining how best to reach the goal of transferring the transportation of goods from road to sea and rail. Imports from Asia are also increasing. These goods have a high and increasing container share, and are usually transported to Norway by container ships.
