The purpose of this investigation was to develop and evaluate improved operator stations on an FMC 320A roof bolter and a 6L shuttle car during underground use. Improved operator compartments incorporating overhead canopies, logical arrangements of controls, and design features offering greater operator comfort were developed and retrofitted to the roof bolter and the shuttle car. The vehicles were evaluated in underground operations at separate mine sites. The successful evaluation resulted in incorporation of the designs as standard features of the 320A roof bolter, and the 5L, 6L, and 10L shuttle cars.
