The purpose of the JFK International Airport RF Assessment is to collect data to support decision making regarding EDS communications systems and Baggage Tag Systems operating at domestic and international airports. Data was collected in three key areas: baggage staging area, flight lines, and within the baggage compartments of operational aircraft. The goal is to determine if any emissions are present that could possibly interfere with the implementation of an EDS or RF Baggage Tag System, or if signals utilized by these systems could interfere with normal aircraft and airport RF systems. The data collected at both TWA and Delta domestic terminals and the analysis of that data indicate substantial RFI/EMI in particular frequency bands throughout the 2 MHz to 2.8 GHz spectrum monitored.
