The Village of Warroad, Roseau County, Minnesota, has submitted a request for Federal financial assistance for futher development of the Warroad Municipal Airport, under the Airport Development Aid Program, as authorized by the Airport and Airway Development Act of 1970, including surfacing a 75' x 3500' NW/SE runway, constructing a 635' x 40' connecting taxiway, a 200' x 400' apron, safety fencing, lighting and entrance road. Acquiring this property and developing the runway will provide aerial accessibility to the community during periods of wet and inclement weather and during the hours of darkness. In addition, a greater margin of public safety than is now experienced with the present unlighted grass runway will be realized. The existing turf runway is only 2,300' long. The turf runway is difficult to maintain as a safe facility for general aviation aircraft, especially during the spring thaw and other periods of inclement weather. In order to provide an adequate facility for the existing and probable future general aviation needs of this area, it is necessary to lengthen and pave this runway as proposed.
