The center-console boat has been designed with the fisherman in mind. It is an open boat, either outboard or inboard-outboard powered. It usually is fiberglass, but some aluminum boats are also being produced. The steering, throttle, and other controls and instruments are placed on a small cabinet, or console, near the center of the boat. Seating is directly behind and in front of and attached to the console. Enough space is left between the sides of the console and the gunwales to allow the fisherman to walk around on all sides of the boat, an important consideration in fighting a fish. (Author)
