This report identifies 47 fuel conservation strategies for commercial aviation and examines the fuel saving potential, costs, constraints, and current implementation levels of these options. This assessment is based on a comprehensive review of published data and discussions with representatives from industry and government. Analyses were performed to quantify the fuel saving potential of each option, and to assess the fuel savings achieved to date by the airline industry. Those options requiring further government support for option implementation were identified, rated, and ranked in accordance with a rating methodology developed in the study. Finally, recommendations are made for future government efforts in the area of fuel conservation in commercial aviation. (ERA citation 05:005911)
