The French approach to safety doctrine is first presented: safety objectives as regards populations and plant safety objectives. Then, a description of ultimate or ''U'' procedures, involving the proceeding of physical phenomena induced by severe accidents, is given. Finally, R and D programs in relation to the various stages or severe accidents are presented. (ERA citation 10:002340)
