Experience gained in the use of boron fiber composite coatings of the internal grid structure of the rudders of modern aircraft is presented. The coatings of such grids are exposed to both traction and compression. Boron was therefore chosen because of the excellent properties in compression of boron preimpregnated epoxies. It is concluded that in using boron coatings no major difficulties were encountered.
