The mechanical rotary acceleration device senses both acceleration and deceleration of a rotating member and responds to control switches or the like to correct the acceleration. The device is used in the field of airlaunched, towed targetry in which a combination reel and launcher assembly is secured to a towing aircraft. The device precludes the power unit, tow line and target from accelerating beyond acceptable limits during the reeling operation.
