Methods for position-fixing and navigation in and under sea ice are described, and the importance of a true knowledge of the bottom topography is discussed. Submarines, diving, seismology, and hydroacoustic/optic integrated systems for navigation in Arctic waters are considered. Cargo submarines and liquid natural gas submarine tankers; radio communication systems for submarines operating under ice; and plate tectonics and technology of deep ocean mining are treated.
