Highway traffic noise is an ongoing concern in the United States. The combination of urban sprawl and the continual development of the interstate roadway system inadvertently cause conflicts. The majority of these conflicts occur when noise-sensitive land uses are developed in close proximity to high volume roadways. Highway traffic noise causes tension by disrupting the quality of life for thousands of homes all over the country. For this reason, states are constantly evaluating newer methods to reduce the effects of traffic noise to the nearby sensitive land uses.
