The takeoff and landing performance of tactical STOL transports is entirely dependent on rough field operational capability, ground rules, and specified criteria. A brief study was conducted to assess the impact of stall margins, rolling friction, braking friction, rotation rate, and climb gradient. The STOL handling qualities criteria that provide allowances for the relationship of takeoff and landing distances were briefly investigated. Recommended guidelines, takeoff and landing ground rules, and minimum flying speed are presented. (Modifed author abstract)
