The Air Force, as part of a Department of Defense (DOD) effort to rid the nation of social and economic ills, is actively participating in a Program entitled Domestic Action. A cursory historical review of the military's contribution to our nation's growth establishes a historical precedent for further Air Force involvement in this socio-economic Program. The DOD and the Air Force Domestic Action Programs are examined through the eyes of the Wing Commander of a Tactical Fighter Wing with emphasis placed on the locally managed Program as compared to the centrally managed program. Critical evaluations of the Program's organization and its reporting system are provided. Wing Commander's are offered several basic steps that might be used to get a Domestic Action Program started and limitations peculiar to a Tactical Fighter Wing are enumerated. Lastly, the Domestic Action Program's contribution to improving upon the tarnished image of the military is discussed at some length. (Author)
