The new specification, Mil-A-87221, will allow design requirements to be more closely tailered to the anticipated use of the aircraft. In this way the final product will be more efficient, with less wasted, unneeded, and unused capabilities. This will lead, in turn, to reduce costs of ownership for Air Force weapon systems. This specification has been applied to the definition of requirements for the Advanced Tactical Fighter.
