A model test program was carried out at the Naval Ship Research and Development Center to determine the performance of a high-speed containership with overlapping propellers. The afterbody lines and propulsion arrangement was developed as a modification to the 25.5-knot contrarotating version of the Maritime Administration C9-ST-86a design. Results of the model tests are compared with the performance of the twin-screw C9-ST-86a design and the contraroting parent form. Conclusions and recommendations for future investigations of the overlapping propeller arrangement are given. (Author)
