The F-14 is a tandem-seat variable-sweep, high-wing aircraft with twin engines in podded nacelles. The F-14A uses the existing TF30-P-412 engines and current electronics based on the AWG-9 system in a new airframe optimized for close air-to-air combat. It can be stated that design of the aircraft is intended to represent a significant improvement over the existing inventory, as far as adverse effects are considered, and in all probability the eventual numbers of fighters will not be increased so as to represent incremental additions to existing concentrations of environmental pollutants. The F-14 will have a high velocity and make a loud noise, however, all reasonable measures which will not compromise the mission of the aircraft will be taken to reduce this effect. (Author)
