Sandia's primary interest in a joint thunderstorm research effort was in the effect of lightning on nuclear weapons and on aircraft and missile wiring. A description of the test instrumentation, its installation in the aircraft, and an analysis of the results obtained is given. Flights were made into thunderstorms off the coast of Florida. Strikes were photographed and recorded, and the information was later analyzed. Although certain trends in effects were noted, no specific conclusions were drawn because of the limited nature of the experiment. (Author)
