The report constitutes the results of a study undertaken for the Economic Development Administration under Contract No. 7-35463. The study is directed toward developing a plan and program for the recreational shoreline development of Wiscasset, Maine, at the site at which the ships 'Hesper' and 'Luther Little' lie grounded. These ships have lain in the harbor since the early 1930's and have represented a major attraction for tourists passing through Wiscasset en route to Coastal Maine vacation centers. The Wiscasset Industrial Development Corporation is interested in preserving these ships as a tourist attraction and developing a waterfront recreation and tourist center near the ships to enhance the local tourist business and assist the local economy. This project is directed toward providing assistance to the community in achieving its objectives. (Author)
