Accident risks were studied for different types of icy/snowy road surfaces. Of particular interest was the accident rate for roads covered by loose snow or slush. The data used were originally collected in the 1973 studded tire investigation. Results are presented in tables showing the accident rate (accidents per million vehicle kms) for different road conditions. Results pertaining to accident types and accident severity are also presented.
