Bus pre-emption systems will be installed at a number of 'critical' intersections on the Powell Boulevard Arterial in Portland, Oregon. TRI-MET will be establishing a Fastlink express bus service along this arterial in the future. This project will continue the analysis that was begun with a previous project that examined two different bus signal pre-emption technologies at four intersections on a short stretch of Powell Boulevard. The first study examined the effects of bus pre-emption on cross streets and turning movements. The new study will examine the site specific characteristics of several critical intersections. The new study will also include a field validation of a bus signal pre-emption simulation that has been developed.
